From 2000 to 2021, global primary crop production surged by 54%, reaching 9.5 billion tonnes—an increase of 2% from 2020 and 3.3 billion tonnes more than in 2000. Cereals constituted nearly one-third of the total production in 2021, followed by sugar crops (22%), and vegetables and oil crops (12% each).
