Healthcare spending in Malaysia has been growing at a rate of 8.6% annually from 2016 to 2021, with most of the increase happening in 2020 and 2021 due to the government's focus on healthcare and the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This has led to healthcare spending accounting for 5.1% of GDP in 2021, up from 4.3% in 2019. However, Malaysian healthcare spending is still below the desired level.
