Thus, most Malaysian pharmaceuticals producers specialise in manufacturing generic drugs. However, domestic drug producers have not built sufficient scale or sophistication to originate and patent their own medications. Nevertheless, Malaysian pharmaceuticals producers have been gaining expertise in the halal pharmaceuticals niche, and aim to grow their export market share in this area.
